August 2019
Had our dinner at a cozy place called Wo Peng Cuisine today. (和平宴) We wanted to get their dimsum but we realise that they do not serve the dimsum menu for dinner. The Dimsum is actually great so if you do happen to pass by restaurant in the afternoon, do give it a try!
The restaurant itself is very cozy and clean. It is what you would expect in the typical Chinese restaurants. For a start, you can choose different kind of tea but we decided to go with chrysanthemum.
The appetizer – Fish Skin with soup

The fish skin is really crispy and nice! Of course but won’t taste as flavourful as your Irwin salted egg. However, it gives a really nice crunch and is very addictive too. Doesn’t feel too dry nor oily! We had a happy time eating it.

It actually comes with a soup too so what you do (we believe) is that you can dip the fish skin into the soup. For the parts with the grey skin you can actually look out for the satisfying crackling sound!

Peking Duck (Half)

Finally, we fixed our Peking duck cravings! I don’t know much about Peking duck to really comment on it but I think it is not bad. I liked it. My partner liked it too and, given the fact that he is usually more mindful about the taste and quality of food than me, it must be not that bad!
XO sauce prawn

I love prawn and I wish there were more prawns! It is decent and the prawn is pretty fresh. The sauce is the kind that you would want to put it all over your rice and just finish the whole thing like that. If I remember correctly, I think there were about 6-7 mid/large size prawn inside. According to the waitress, the XO sauce is one of their specialty so you can give it a try!
Vegetable dish

okay I’m not really a fan of vegetables and obviously was not the person put in charge of ordering the vegetables HAHA so I can’t remember what this is called exactly. Nonetheless, it was pretty okay! The portion was quite generous and I think we had some leftovers in the end.
Porridge with duck meat

So apparently the half portion of Peking duck comes with a side of either fried rice/noodles/porridge etc. Pretty sure there were more choices but we chose porridge! The portion, I emphasis, is really generous although I’m not too sure whether we felt that was because it came last and we were already pretty filled up by then, or that it was just large. It is a hearty porridge and quoting my partner, “it is the kind of porridge that you would like as a comfort food”. At the end of it we takeaway some back for my mother to try because there were still a lot of meat and porridge left. Mom said it was nice!
Overall, it was a pretty cozy and comfortable meal which managed to make us feel pretty full by the end of it. We would probably come back one day! Perhaps we will come at a earlier timing next time because we want to eat the Dimsum!!
One word to describe my experience: Cozy 😀
