Kaisen Don (Assorted Raw Fish)

Aburi Spicy Tuna

Soft Shell Crab

Overview!

Overall, my favourite dish for this meal will be the soft shell Crab. I liked the fact that it is crispy but not too oily, savoury and yet not too salty or sickening. It was just nice! I was happy with the aburi Spicy Tuna and the don too but just not as much as the soft shell crab.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice! There isn’t a lot of seats so it’s better to book the place in advance. If you want to dine at somewhere private, this will be the place you want to go to! For our area, there were only 6 sets of table (2 table each set) and therefore it’s really private and I guess relaxing in some sense. Overall, we had a great meal! We will probably try their omakase next time.

August 2019

Side dish – beef slices

Soup: Vegetable Soup

Small bowl of rice (you can choose different portion sizes!)

Side dish – Tofu

Side dish – Macaroni and Egg Salad

Side dish – Prawn! (This is a must try when you visit this place!)

Hearty side dishes with soup

Meal complete with the mains! Pork gyoza for him and prawn gyoza for me!

Overall, it’s a hearty and surprisingly full set meal. When I first heard that it’s a keisuke outlet that sells gyoza, my initial reaction was “huh will we even be full from the food?”. Lo and behold we didn’t know it comes with sides and we were really full and happy with the meal!

The service crews were friendly and swift too. Think we will likely go back again!

August 2019

Our Unagi craving took over so…here we go again! However, we also decided to try some other dishes!

Starter: Anchovies (?) With Japanese Rice

Savoury, a little salty but not overpowering because it is paired with Japanese rice! Getting us ready!!

Omelette

Omelette! The omelette was beautiful. First of all, it is not the “dry” kind that we usually eat outside. As you can see from the pictures below, there’s quite a bit of moisture retained! I personally feel that because of that, it makes the whole omelette feel so fresh and light on the palette. However, this also means that if you’re the kind who enjoys the rawness and heavy taste of egg yolk, you might not like this dish as it might be too light tasting for you.

Because of how light tasting and refreshing it is, you won’t really feel like it’s too heavy on your palette even though you finished half of it! It will go well with rice too.

Fried Chicken (Grilled)

It might look normal to you… But it’s not. We were so in love with just how crispy the skin was and the juiciness of the chicken!!

LOOK AT THAT CRISPY SKIN AND JUICY MEAT. It comes with sambal chilli!

Grilled Unagi Don

Still as delicious as always!! Just that we ordered too much this time round we struggled a little to finish. However, our Unagi craving is probably fixed for at least a month! 😛

Suggestion: if there’s only 2 of you, just order one bowl first! They are really generous with the unagi portion lolol so there’ll be enough!!

One word to describe my experience: SATISFIED! 👍

Journal: 鸭王 (JB)

August 2019

鸭王 is definitely a place that we will visit everytime we enter JB! This food here is great and affordable. The only drawback would be that it is outside of City Square Mall (JB) which means that you’ll have to brave the sun a little in order to get there!

The main thing to eat there, in our opinion, would be the herbal duck! They do, however, sell pork too =) I’ve tried it before and the skin is super crispy! You can choose to mix the two together =)

Walter chosed the rice while I had the noodle! Love the noodle!

Tea wise, we chosed 茶王 (King of Tea). I feel like it has helped us to digest the food better! Therefore, we don’t really feel greasy at all etc.

Overall, it was a great experience as usual and we will definitely visit again!

Decaffeinated Black Tea

I liked the tea! Even without sugar, it tastes sweet in a good way (not the sickening kind of sweet but a very light, fruity kind of sweet). It smells really fresh too!

Hot Chocolate

I really like this hot chocolate because (1) it is rich and creamy (2) it tastes like dark chocolate! Quite an interesting taste and it is something you’ll enjoy if you like your chocolate slightly bitter!

Also, it comes with this cute little pot! There are still hot chocolate inside.

Norwegian Salmon

First of all, the salmon is pretty good and fresh! (Had it medium done). Also, the vine ripened tomato is great! (And for someone who dislikes tomato to say this, it must be really decent)

English Set

Portion and serving was generous! Poached eggs was pretty well done and overall, quite satisfying! It was hearty and less oily than expected, so it will probably be a good choice if you want to eat something to your heart’s (and stomach’s) content while still feeling “clean” and relatively “lighter”!

Ice Cream – Pistachio and Vanilla Flavour

Partner says that the vanilla is pretty alright but the pistachio was the one that we really enjoyed. Personally, I think both are great! Loved this combination too because it’s just the right amount of sweetness! However, we do wished that the portion size was bigger though!

Overall, it is a hearty meal and we felt full and yet not too heavy like some other meal! (Perhaps it is because the food is just less oily in general). It is a place we will visit again =)

One word to describe my experience: Hearty ❤️

Journal: Wo Peng Cuisine @ Furama City Centre Hotel

August 2019

Had our dinner at a cozy place called Wo Peng Cuisine today. (和平宴) We wanted to get their dimsum but we realise that they do not serve the dimsum menu for dinner. The Dimsum is actually great so if you do happen to pass by restaurant in the afternoon, do give it a try!

The restaurant itself is very cozy and clean. It is what you would expect in the typical Chinese restaurants. For a start, you can choose different kind of tea but we decided to go with chrysanthemum.

The appetizer – Fish Skin with soup

The fish skin is really crispy and nice! Of course but won’t taste as flavourful as your Irwin salted egg. However, it gives a really nice crunch and is very addictive too. Doesn’t feel too dry nor oily! We had a happy time eating it.

It actually comes with a soup too so what you do (we believe) is that you can dip the fish skin into the soup. For the parts with the grey skin you can actually look out for the satisfying crackling sound!

Peking Duck (Half)

Finally, we fixed our Peking duck cravings! I don’t know much about Peking duck to really comment on it but I think it is not bad. I liked it. My partner liked it too and, given the fact that he is usually more mindful about the taste and quality of food than me, it must be not that bad!

XO sauce prawn

I love prawn and I wish there were more prawns! It is decent and the prawn is pretty fresh. The sauce is the kind that you would want to put it all over your rice and just finish the whole thing like that. If I remember correctly, I think there were about 6-7 mid/large size prawn inside. According to the waitress, the XO sauce is one of their specialty so you can give it a try!

Vegetable dish

okay I’m not really a fan of vegetables and obviously was not the person put in charge of ordering the vegetables HAHA so I can’t remember what this is called exactly. Nonetheless, it was pretty okay! The portion was quite generous and I think we had some leftovers in the end.

Porridge with duck meat

So apparently the half portion of Peking duck comes with a side of either fried rice/noodles/porridge etc. Pretty sure there were more choices but we chose porridge! The portion, I emphasis, is really generous although I’m not too sure whether we felt that was because it came last and we were already pretty filled up by then, or that it was just large. It is a hearty porridge and quoting my partner, “it is the kind of porridge that you would like as a comfort food”. At the end of it we takeaway some back for my mother to try because there were still a lot of meat and porridge left. Mom said it was nice!

Overall, it was a pretty cozy and comfortable meal which managed to make us feel pretty full by the end of it. We would probably come back one day! Perhaps we will come at a earlier timing next time because we want to eat the Dimsum!!

One word to describe my experience: Cozy 😀
